I was recently visiting the Reptile Lab at the University of Arizona. The lab is a good place to go for a nice, relaxing work out, if you’re in the mood to get your heart rate up. Reptiles, like people, are a little bit crazy. Not that they don’t have their good moments, either, but the fact of the matter is that this is a really interesting place to be.
As we learned in the opening scene, the axolotl is a long-tailed amphibian native to Central America. It has a strong tendency to turn its head this way and that when it sees something that interests it. It also enjoys chewing on pieces of furniture or things it can get its teeth into. The axolotl is a good place to look for the strange things that people do, and it can also be a good place to investigate the strange things you see.

With a normal fish, you can get them to do whatever you want, but that doesn’t seem to work for axolotls. While they can stay in the pond for an entire day without eating, they seem to only be able to stay in the pond for one hour. If they try to eat again they just get super depressed and die, so they don’t seem to have the same problem with eating.
Axolotls seem to have the same problem as fish, but are the only animals who can just stay in the pond without eating. Axolotls are only able to stay in the pond for one hour, so they just die.
Now that I’m getting to it, I’m pretty sure axolotls are a lot more like us. We’re all just one big extended family of mammals doing our thing in the water with no real self awareness. The problem is that most of our actions don’t seem to be on autopilot. When we eat, we often don’t fully realize our actions until it’s too late.
